Never Forget Who You Are, The Rest Of The World Will Not

Never forget who you are, the rest of the world won't

“Never forget who you are, the rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to harm you. ” This is said by Tyron Lannister to Jon Snow in the fifth chapter of the first season of Game of Thrones.

Forgetting who we are, our history, our past makes us vulnerable. All that history is experience and it is knowledge and, therefore, it is a learning opportunity, both from the world and from ourselves. In what we are, what we want to become is born, no matter how much it hurts or weighs us.

As much as we want to forget where we came from, hide a past that embarrasses or hurts us, or ignore our limitations, there are things that will never change. The first is that this will continue to be the case, regardless of who it weighs, because it cannot be changed. The second is that, as much as we do not want to see it, others will see it. Thus, the more we try not to look, the more damage they can cause us will increase.

Accept your weaknesses

By accepting your weaknesses you not only have the possibility to make yourself stronger, but you also take it away from those who want to use it against you. You have to face your flaws and weaknesses and laugh at yourself so that when someone tries it, they feel portrayed and caricatured. For this it is good that you delve into something essential: know yourself.

This self-knowledge work will open the doors for you to develop all the skills you need to become the person you want to be. What’s more, it will allow you to discover what it is that you really want for yourself.

In addition, thanks to this self-knowledge work, you will be able to discover which of your behaviors are inherited from your family heritage. Do not forget that many of the things that we do or that we think we are are nothing more than an inheritance of a past that haunts us and that does not allow us to grow. It is the way children pay for the sins of their parents.

When you know yourself you will be able to be aware of your own identity, your own values, your own aspirations. This way you will be able to find your weaknesses and limitations. You can also let your strengths and abilities come to the fore, many of which may have been doomed in the shadow of your weaknesses or your past.

Knowing yourself you can learn to react to events, not only developing new skills, but also learning to manage your way of acting and dealing with problems.

No one can decide for you if you know yourself

“When you accept your weaknesses, no one can use them against you.” That is also said by Tyron to Jon in the same scene. And he is not without reason. If you know yourself well, you stop being manipulable. Your weaknesses stop serving as a weapon to be attacked and become a defense to face those who want to go against you. This will boost your self-confidence and self-esteem.

If you know yourself well, if you know what your weak points are, do not forget that you will be able to control the anger that your weaknesses provoke in you, you will be able to forgive those who may be responsible and you will know how to accept your responsibility for what you have done. But above all, you can decide what will happen from now on.

By acknowledging your weaknesses and accepting your limitations, you have all your cards on the table. They may not be the best cards, but they are the ones you have, and they are the ones you have to play with. In this game, don’t forget that if you don’t play your cards someone else will play them for you, but for their benefit, not yours. It is much smarter to take them and not let someone else decide for you.
